Breastcon-2018: New Trends in Breast Cancer Management

A national conference on new trends in breast cancer management was held at the University Medical & Dental College, The University of Faisalabad on October 30-31, 2018. In this conference latest treatment option were discussed for the management of breast cancer patients. Prof Dr Muhammad Saeed, Pro Rector and Dean Faculty of health sciences highlighted importance of multidisciplinary team management in breast cancer. Prof Dr Zafar Ali Chaudhary, Vice Chancellor Faisalabad Medical University (FMU) described evolution of breast cancer surgery from the ancient surgeries to latest techniques. There were 3 scientific sessions in the first session on the oncoplastic breast surgery, foreign trained and qualified Dr Saira Saleem, Associate Professor at Madinah Teaching Hospital (MTH), shared her experience of managing breast cancer patients using latest surgical techniques. Renowned speaker form all-around the country participated in the conference including Prof Dr Arshad Cheema, Chariman Surgery, University of Lahore, Brig Dr Nadira Mamoon, HOD Pathology, Shifa International Hospital, Dr Asif loya, Medical Director and HOD Pathology Shoukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital(SKMCH), Dr Usman Rashid, Senior research scientist from SKMCH, Dr Fiaz from Superior University and Al-Razi Hospital, Lahore, discussed latest advancement in different fields for breast cancer management. Prof Dr Irshad Ahmed, Surgery Department MTH, said vote of thanks in the end. On Day 2 of the Conference Live Workshop was arranged, where Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon Dr Asad Parvez from SKMCH, and Dr Saira Saleem from MTH, did Live demonstration of innovating oncoplastic breast conserving surgery techniques in operation theater. Research work and latest surgical techniques discussed in conference and workshop definitely enhanced the understanding and knowledge of doctors who participated in the conference form different parts of the country.
