October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. Department of Surgery, MTH organized a week long activities on breast cancer awareness including a walk participated by Doctors, Nurses, students, patients and general public on October 19, 2017.
Addressing to the participants, Associate Professor Dr Saira Saleem said that diagnosis of breast cancer at an earliest stage could increase the survival rate. She also elaborated the causes, symptoms, prevention and treatments of breast cancer.
Speaking on the occasion, Head Department of Radiology Dr Nayab Alyia briefed about all the diagnostic facilities available in MTH regarding screening and diagnosis of Breast cancer. MTH is the only hospital in Faisalabad which offers diagnostic facilities i.e. Mammography and MRI Breast, Dr Nayab added.
“Pakistan had the high rate of breast cancer than any other country in Asia as approximately 90,000 new cases are diagnosed every year out of which 40,000 died. This is an appalling condition and demands greater awareness among the women”.
