Otolaryngologists diagnose and manage diseases of the nose, paranasal sinuses, larynx (voice box), oral cavity and pharynx (mouth and throat) as well as structures of the neck and face. ENT department at MTH is fully equipped with modern surgical and diagnostic tools up-to-date. In the ENT OPD diagnostic units with facilities of, rigid nasoendoscopes and fiberoptic endoscopes are available along with multimedia and LCDs to facilitate the students in learning as they aid in better visualization of anatomical structures and increased understanding of disease andour operation theatres possess all the latest surgical instruments used in advanced surgical techniques including endoscopic sinus surgery, bronchoscopy, mastoidectomy, rhinoplasty and other head and neck surgeries. Emergency services are available round the clock andlatest equipment for hearing assessment is also present to assess hearing of neonates,children as well as adults which help to diagnose and treat different ear diseases.
Numerous studies and researches are being carried out with proper data collection to promote research activities among the students. The Head of department conducts clinical classes in wards on a daily basis for improved and effective education of the students. The junior doctors also take part in this process by assisting the students in examining patients. House officers and post graduate trainees are being guided in different fields in collaboration with radiologists and pathologists. The department has been recognized for post-graduate training by CPSP and PMDC. The students are being trained under direct supervision of the head of department and get a chance to present cases in clinicopathological and national/ international ENT conferences. Well organized journal club meetings are being held with input from other departments like radiology, pathology and neurosurgery.
Outpatient Deptt:
ENT department treat conditions that affect the senses such as hearing and balance disorders or smell and taste problems. We also treat patients with conditions that affect their voice, breathing and swallowing as well as those with head and neck tumours including the skull base and interface with the brain.
In outpatient dept we provide outpatient clinics 4 sessions / 1 week where state of art ENT units are available having rigid and flexible endoscopes (nasal endoscope, nasopharngoscope& laryngoscope) with LCD monitoring facility which are used to diagnose and treat different diseases in the region of nose, pharynx and larynx. The latest ENT microscopes are also available in OPD to diagnose and treat ear diseases.
A specialized hearing clinic is also available having latest Pure Tone Audiometer, Tympanometer, BERA and Otoacoustic emission equipment which helps to diagnose and treat hearing and balance disorders in both adults and childrens.
Inpatient Deptt:
This department has 20 standard beds10 females and 10 males. The ENT Department provides a complete range of operations in the field of ear surgery, head and neck oncologic surgery, microsurgery of the larynx, thyroid and parathyroid glands, salivary gland surgery, functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS), skull base surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery of the external ear and nose. The department also provides conservative treatments of acute cases.
Speech and Language Therapy Services:
Speech and language therapy services are designed to evaluate and treat speech & language disorders in all ages, from children to adults. We have got a highly qualified and trained speech and language therapist who assess/ diagnose and treats patients with communication problems that result from disability, surgery, or developmental disorders. They are also instrumental in preventing disorders related to speech, language, cognitive communication, voice, and fluency. This includes both receptive (understanding speech) and expressive (speaking) communication problems. We also evaluate and treat people with swallowing disorders due to stroke, brain injury, or other nervous system impairments.
