Department of surgery was established in Madinah Teaching Hospital (MTH) in 2005. At present, surgical department is divided into two units and have total number of 120 beds.
Department of surgery is recognized by College of Physician & Surgeons Pakistan for postgraduate training and also by PMDC for house job training of medical graduates. The surgical procedures are performed in a state of the art operation theater complex comprising of six operation theaters, recovery room and sterilization room. Operation Theater is equipped with latest equipment and machinery.
There is also a high dependency unit comprising of 4 beds in surgical ward for serious patients needing intensive care. Different types of surgical procedures are being performed by department including abdominal, chest, head and neck surgeries. Department is also providing round the clock emergency services to patients needing emergency surgical procedures.
Introduction of Laparoscopic surgery is a major breakthrough in surgery department of Madinah Teaching Hospital (MTH). Laparoscopic surgery started in 2007 and till now about 1300 Laparoscopic surgeries have been performed. The department has become a referral centre from various districts of Punjab especially for thyroid and Laparoscopic surgery.
During the year 2012, about 15028 patients were attended in surgical OPD, 1913 surgical procedures were done and 2360 patients got inpatient services. At present, statistically we are providing specialist advice to approximately 100-150 outdoor patients everyday and we have more than75 indoor cases on average. Last but not the least, all surgical procedures and outdoor services are being provided to patients free of cost.

Children under 10 years are not allowed in the ward. This is for the comfort of our patients and for the safety of the children in term of infection acquisition
