Kidneys in human beings are very important and essential organs of the body. kidneys not only form and excrete water from the body but it also excrete waste products of metabolism. urine is formed in kidneys, passes through ureters and stored in the bladder which pushes this urine out from the body. 

Department of Urology deal and manage the diseases of urological and genital systems. Kidney stones , congenital abnormalities, infections, tumours etc are few important diseases which urologists manage.

Stones in the ureters , bladder and urethra and tumours of bladder are other important diseases being managed by this department.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)  and carcinoma prostate are very important diseases of old age in men which require medical and surgical treatment by this department.

Majority of these cases are being managed by minimally invasive methods.

 

To prevent the aquired diseases of urogental system , one should adopt a simple life style, taking plenty of water, fruits , fresh fruit juices, vegetables, low salt diet and white meats and exercise etc.

One should avoid smoking, red meats, excessive salt, dairy products, animal fats and junk foods to decrease the incidence of theses aquired diseases.

Introduction

Department of urology , madina teaching hospital faisalabad was established in 2008 within the department of Surgery and Allied discipline.

By the grace of almighty Allah , now the department has 30 dedicated beds.

Department has one professor, Associate Professor, one assistant profeesor and two senior registrars along with three post graduate residents.

Department has been recognised by Collge of physician and surgeons and thrre post graduate residents are doing their post graduation at this moment. Three of our residents have qualified in FCPS urology examinations in previous years.

Daily OPD work and 24 hour emergencies are being dealt in the department along with three elective surgeries list per week.

On an average basis about 160-170 elective surgeries per month are being carried out by this department. 

All urological endoscopic as well as open surgical procedures , like TURP, TURBT,  stricture surgeries, PCNL, Pyelolithotomies, nephrectomies, Ureterorenoscopies, paediatric urological prcedures, vesical stone surgeries , VVF repairs etc are being successfully performed in the department.

Department of urology , madina teaching hospital faisalabad was established in 2008.

At the start urology Department started its services  within the department of Surgery and Allied Health discipline.Dr Akram malik joined this deaprtment as Assistant Professor Urology and only 4+- 2  beds were allocated for urological patients.

The Department gradually expanded over a periode of time and new urologists joined the department as Assistant professor, Senior Registrar and post graduate students. 

By the grace of almighty Allah , now the department has 30 dedicated beds. initially only two days are allocated for out patient department and two lists per week with only one allocated table for urology. 

At present we perform duties in out patient Department on daily basis, recieve urological emergencies round the clock and elective urological procedures three days per week and emergency urological procedures on daily basis.

 

At the moment Department has one professor, Associate Professor, one assistant profeesor and two senior registrars along with three post graduate residents.

Department has been recognised by College of physician and surgeons and three post graduate residents are doing their post graduation at this moment. Three of our residents have qualified in FCPS urology examinations in previous years.

 

We at the Department are actively involved in research and continue medical education. We actively participate in national and international urological conferences by presenting our research work. We have published a good number of research articles in national and international indexed journals. Journal of University Medical and Dental College , an official journal of university medical college, The University Of Faisalabad is being regularly edited and published by our department.

Professor Akram Malik has been honoured by the college of Physician and Surgeons Pakistan as examiner for FCPS urology from Faisalabad. He along with all faculty members are actively involved in all academic activities/ workshops/ seminars and contieuing medical educations programmes organized by The university of Faisalabad, University of Health Sciences and college of physician and surgeons pakistan , Higher education comission of Pakistan.   

 

On an average basis about 160-170 successful elective surgeries per month are being carried out by this department. 

All urological endoscopic as well as open surgical procedures , like TURP, TURBT,  stricture surgeries, PCNL, Pyelolithotomies, nephrectomies, Ureterorenoscopies, paediatric urological prcedures, vesical stone surgeries , VVF repairs etc are being successfully performed in the department.

Vesicovaginal fistula repair technique has been refined by this department with excellent results. (more than 95% ).

 

Benign Prostate Hyperplasia, renal as well as uretreric and bladder stones, bladder tumours are being managed in most of the cases by minimally invasive endoscopic procedures.

Surgical audit of the department is being regularly carried out to improve the services and minimise the chances of errors.

 

In future renal transplant surgery and its associated facilities will be established inshaallah.

 

All these procedures and services  in this department are being provided with no cost or only on minimum cost even in cases of self payment basis.
