MTH marks World Heart Day

Department of Cardiology, Madinah Teaching Hospital arranged an awareness walk to mark “World Heart Day” on September 29, 2017.
Prof Dr AG Rehan, Medical Director, MTH, Prof Dr Bashir Ahmad, Medical Superintendent, senior doctors and paramedical staff participated in the walk. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Naeem Asghar, Head Department of Cardiology highlighted the important facts about the heart diseases. He said that about 30% to 40% deaths in Pakistanis are due to heart diseases. At least 80% of premature deaths from cardiovascular disease (CVD) could be avoided if main risk factors like, high blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels, smoking, inadequate intake of fruit and vegetables, obesity, sedentary life style, excessive stress, sleeplessness and poor sanitary conditions are heeded to and timely treated. Controlling blood pressure, we shall be able to control heart diseases, he further said. On the occasion, informative brochures and flyers were also distributed to the general public.
