World Osteoporosis Day marked on October 20 each year, is a year-long campaign dedicated to raising global awareness of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis and related bone diseases. TUF Rehabilitation Society in collaboration with Department of Orthopedics, MTH organized a series of activities on the day.
Prof Dr Kaleem Shaukat, Head Department of Orthopedics, MTH delivered a lecture on prevention of osteoporosis. He briefed the audience the theme of the year 2017 “Love Your Bones: Protect Your Future”. Considering the importance of public awareness and education in lowering the risk of osteoporosis and its complications an awareness walk was also organized, actively participated by faculty members and students. Members of Rehabilitation Society organized a free BMD test, free physical activity and nutritional advice was given to students and administrative staff. Awareness brochures were also distributed amongst staff and patients in MTH.
“Eating healthy diet such as milk, yogurt and cheese to provide enough calcium and vitamin D, is essential for bone health. Quit smoking cigarettes and take regular physical exercise to keep your bones healthy”.
