MTH Department of Breast Surgery

Description

Introduction

The Department of Breast Surgery at Madinah Teaching Hospital (MTH) was established on June 1, 2022, with the aim of delivering state-of-the-art surgical care for patients with both benign and malignant breast diseases.

Patient care begins at the outpatient department with a thorough triple assessment, followed by case discussions in a multidisciplinary team (MDT) meeting.

To ensure comprehensive and evidence-based treatment, affiliated departments such as Pathology, Radiology, Oncology, Physiotherapy, and Psychiatry actively collaborate in weekly MDT meetings. This approach guarantees that every patient receives care aligned with the latest clinical practice guidelines.

Training & Education

The Department of Breast Surgery has developed a structured training system for breast surgery fellows and is the only department in Faisalabad offering fellowship training in Breast Surgery.

Due to its commitment to excellence, patient volume has significantly increased, leading to the addition of a third weekly operation list.

The department provides unique breast surgeries, including:

  • Breast conservation surgery
  • Therapeutic mammoplasty
  • Reduction mammoplasty
  • Flap-based breast reconstruction
  • Implant-based breast reconstruction

Academic activities include three outpatient clinics and three operation theatre days per week, along with grand rounds, case presentations, MDT discussions, journal club meetings, and research projects.

Students and trainees are also encouraged to participate in continuing professional development (CPD) activities, such as workshops, conferences, and advanced courses, to stay updated with the latest practices in breast disease management.
