Introduction

The Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Madinah Teaching Hospital, Faisalabad, established in 2017, is committed to providing comprehensive, compassionate, and innovative care for patients with gastrointestinal and liver diseases.

The department offers:

  • Specialized diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
  • 24/7 emergency services and intensive care facilities
  • State-of-the-art endoscopy services for the esophagus, stomach, intestine, liver, and pancreas
  • Twice-weekly outpatient clinics and evening consultations

With close collaboration among departments like Radiology, Surgery, and Oncology, patients receive complete multidisciplinary care.

Advanced Endoscopy Services

Endoscopy is a medical procedure using a flexible tube with a camera and light to examine the body internally. At MTH, we provide state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic services, including:

  • Complex biliary procedures (minimally invasive treatments for bile duct issues)
  • Gallstone disease management in collaboration with surgeons
  • Pediatric endoscopy with anesthesia/sedation
  • Female gastroenterologist for colonoscopy, ensuring privacy and comfort for women

Gastrointestinal Bleeding Unit

Gastrointestinal bleeding (GI bleed) is a serious condition with high risks if untreated. MTH offers a 24/7 Bleed Control Unit with trained staff and emergency endoscopy facilities to ensure immediate and effective care.

Hepatitis & Liver Care

  • Twice-weekly outpatient hepatitis clinic with free viral hepatitis screening
  • Latest recommended medications for Hepatitis A, B, and C
  • Patient education programs focusing on prevention and awareness
  • Advanced treatment for liver cancer in collaboration with Radiology, including:
    • TACE (Transarterial Chemoembolization)
    • MWA (Microwave Ablation)
    • RFA (Radiofrequency Ablation)

Academic & Training Excellence

The department is the only recognized postgraduate Gastroenterology unit by CPSP in the Faisalabad division.

The 3-year fellowship program trains future gastroenterologists in:

  • Endoscopic procedures (upper GI, colonoscopy, ERCP)

  • Weekly conferences, case presentations, radiology discussions, and Journal Clubs

  • Stone removal from the bile & pancreatic ducts
